BC gov’t union staff to strike against their own union in BC?

Strikes are no laughing matter.  Normally.

Thanks to the anonymous person who sent me this VERY interesting news bulletin which is posted at the BC Government Employees Union (BCGEU) web site. 

Seems the BCGEU workers, who are represented by the Communications, Energy & Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP), are going on strike against…. the BCGEU!

The staff reps, ie. employees of BCGEU whose job would be to represent employees who need union representation, are on strike.

You may now proceed with the laughter.  (But get a load of those wages!)

Update on labour dispute between BCGEU and staff representatives
 
The BCGEU staff representatives (members of CEP L. 467) are expected to put up picket lines at BCGEU area offices and the Burnaby office Friday, February 18 at 2:00 pm.

The BCGEU has tried very hard to reach an agreement with staff. We have already reached a 3 year agreement with the clerical staff, (members of COPE 378 [Canadian Office and Professional Employees union—ed]) providing .75% (through gain-sharing) 0% and 2% or the increase in the Master Agreement with government workers, whichever is the greater.

The staff representatives say they won’t accept “a COPE agreement“. They expressed no interest in gainsharing. They reject any link with the Master Agreement for government workers.

Most BCGEU members in the past four years received no wage increase or endured wage rollbacks, or paid to maintain jobs through concessions.

Meanwhile most BCGEU staff representatives (Staff Rep 2) continued to receive:
