A conservative OPINION blog --with bite. OPINION by Joel Johannesen.Wednesday, May 02, 2007
I’m offended by the nanny government intrusions into every damn thing, but nobody cares about THAT.
In a story about some retired NHL players visiting the troops in Afghanistan, the CTV Newsnet anchor just called one of them, the arguably legendary Tiger Williams, “infamous”. Nice!
adj.
1. Having an exceedingly bad reputation; notorious.
2. Causing or deserving infamy; heinous: an infamous deed.
3. Law
a. Punishable by severe measures, such as death, long imprisonment, or loss of civil rights.
b. Convicted of a crime, such as treason or felony, that carries such a punishment.
I assure you that Tiger Williams doesn’t give a flying puck about this sort of thing.
Of course this comes amidst the huge news in Parliament today that was stirred up by idiots representing Canada (also known as underworked MPs) regarding the appointment by a hockey organization of a player, a good young man named Shane Doan, as the captain of their hockey team —despite his allegedly having said something not adoring about French Canadians once in a heated exchange during a game (the apparently effete Frenchman girlieman linesman claimed that Doan had said “F—-ing Frenchman.” The NHL investigated (17 monts ago!) and found exactly nothing, because it did not happen).
But that doesn’t matter to the politicians. The hockey organization in question is, you see, federal government-funded, because nothing—NOTHING—in Canada isn’t touched by some form of government aid, assistance, handouts, and one form of total government reliance-building mechanisms or another, to one degree or another. Watch for this
symbol of government reliance all over Canada. (Vote liberal for more of this kind of Fabian socialist action.)
But I mean imagine that. Alleged rudeness (which was determined by NHL investigation did not happen, 17 months ago). In hockey. In Canada. The government must get involved.
Therefore, today, all political parties in Parliament, led by the socialist Bloc Quebecois—a party that hates Canada I think!—voted YES! on a motion to denounce this and to force a citizen hockey player—a good, innocent young man—and game officials to testify before one of the crack parliamentary committees of nanny-statism and huge intrusive big brother government. Using your tax dollars. In Canada.
bunkum
n.
Empty or insincere talk; claptrap.
Also see “demagoguery” and “politicians making a total farce” of themselves.
Read the story here at CTV.CA—and see the most aghast pictures of General Jack Ass and the Blochead Frenchman Ass.
UPDATE - 11:50 AM PDT:
I believe the CTV Newsnet anchor has now removed the adjective “infamous” from reports about Tiger Williams. I believe she used it between about 9:30 and about 10:15 AM PDT then stopped. I’ll have to check my tapes.
