A fitting tribute to Chuck Cadman by CPC MP Jeff Watson

Written by Joel Johannesen on Thursday July 14 2005 at 07:51 AM

A more fitting tribute to Chuck Cadman would be difficult to find. (Hat tip: Jeff B.)

This was written by Jeff Watson, Conservatve MP from Essex, in his blog:

[...] After the vote, Liberal MP after Liberal MP lined up to shake Chuck’s hand. I sat in my seat next to him while most Liberals, including some long-serving MPs, had to introduce themselves to Chuck for the first time. Until then, it seems, MPs from the other side of the House hadn’t felt compelled to get to know him before this historic vote even though many had been in the Chamber as long or longer than Chuck.

Most telling of all was our nation’s Justice Minister who confessed, at his turn in line to shake Chuck’s hand, that he didn’t know Chuck came to Parliament to honour the killing of his son by pursuing rights for victims of crimes and tougher sentencing of criminals. Mr. Cotler promised to move on this issue dispensing a great favour for a favourable vote — as if Chuck could be bought.

Politicians like Irwin Cotler didn’t get it (and probably still don’t). Chuck came to register the wishes of his constituents. No deals. No enticements. No strings. [...]

• If you think PTBC has no value, then don't pay anything for it. It will fade into the sunset. That's the free market at work.
