Explanation to the Nation: Self Satisfaction

Written by Joel Johannesen on Sunday January 22 2006 at 05:48 AM

**Redated simply to bring it back to the top of the page**

I think we’ve finally got the clear explanation now from the Liberals’ current leader, Paul Martin, regarding their hideous Liberal attack ad fiasco.

Watch our audio/video flick.  You’ll be totally clear about things afterwards.

UPDATE:  Video flick removed due to threat from CBC

  17. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) says:

Joel and fellow Proud to Be Canadian readers, this is the key question that you must ask the Prime Minister regarding the Canadian Forces ad (a shortened French version of which is still airing):

“Mr. Martin, rightly or wrongly, many Canadians felt that the ‘Soldiers in the streets with guns in Canada’ ad you approved implied that the Canadian Forces are a threat to Canadians. If this interpretation is correct, it would be an extremely serious problem for Canada. You have stated before the public and the media that this interpretation is wrong and that this ad merely refers to the most effective basing of our Forces and their logistical systems. Since it is virtually unprecedented in history for a ruling national leader to imply that his own army is a threat to his country during an election campaign, will you release all ad development memos, meeting minutes, emails, and other documentary evidence proving your claim that this attack ad was about efficient logistics and not, like Pinochet, about martial law?”

    I am a Canadian civilian.

Once, I was an Army Reservist, and my record was unremarkable.

Yet I have enormous pride in the people I served with and the people who still serve in both our Regular and Reserve Canadian Forces on air, land, and sea. They are the best young people you could imagine.

As someone who has a keen interest in military history and who observed military morale on the ground first hand, I understand how important it is for a person who has not only volunteered to endure discomfort, injury, and death, but to give up their Saturday night at an Officer’s whim, that their government and their people support them.

Our soldiers are mostly peacekeepers today. They also help us each year digging out from snow storms, delivering people from floods, rescuing fishermen and families lost at sea. When they fought, they fought great evil, almost unbelievable evil, and they triumphed.

And when they came back home to Canada, they put down their dirty boots, picked up their pens, and went back to work in the offices across this country alongside you and I. Some were farmers, some doctors, a few were so injured and battered up mentally or physically that they never worked again.

They are heroes and, more importantly, they are good, hard working, honest, decent Canadian men and women and they love this country.

Finally, the answer to this question is essential to setting the historical record about the Paul Martin government and its relationship with the Canadian Forces straight.

2nd Key Question for the Prime Minister…

“I understand you’ve now reversed your previous public assertion that you approved the Canadian Forces ad and that you say that you only saw the transcript. Since you have also stated that the ad was not a scare tactic that the Canadian Forces would be used to establish a military dictatorship, but was instead referring to the dispersion of our Forces and resulting logistical difficulties, can you explain the part of the transcript that says “soldiers with guns in our cities in Canada”; does the fact that the soldiers have guns increase the logistical difficulties they would face?”

Mr Martin here are some questions. You and Liberals have refused to answer them. So I try again here and you’ll ignore them.  But in the next year there will be investigations and you will have to provide answers.  Mr. Martin you can run but you can’t hide.

    a) Since we can set up systems to register voters and automobiles for much, much, much less than a billion dollars, where did all the gun registry money go? We’ve asked you and the Liberal Party to guarantee that this money did not end up in Liberal hands or in Liberal Party coffers, yet you refuse to provide this guarantee. Why? What are you hiding?

    b) Say did the gun registry cost 1 billion or 2 billion.  No one seems to know.  The Auditor General is going to find out Mr Martin.  So save us the expense and just come clean.

    c) Much was made about the Liberal party paying back $1.1 million of ill gotten gains that Judge Gomery identified. Since the Liberal party is broke where did you get the money? Why won’t you tell us?

    d) Where is the rest of the Adscam money?  reportedly even the forensic accountants who looked at Enron can’t find what it was spent on.

Why won’t you come clean with Canadians Mr. Martin?  ...what’s that?  Oh you were fighting an election and if you came clean you might loose your entitlements?

Mr Martin we are not going to go away. We will not drop these issues.

It’s all so confusing….too much work to try to figure out what this guy is saying.

Also….what a waste of time, when Mr. Martin could have been explaining the party platform…<smile>.....

Paul Martin is one scared individual. Not just scared I mean really scared. Scared witless…..but of what?  He is desperate beyond reason.  Once Stephen Harper has an opportunity to dig into the Liberal books Canadians are going to be shocked to the very core by the depth and scope of Liberal corruption that will be uncovered.  Given the stark fear written all over Paul Martin’s face, there is little doubt that the Liberal shredders have been destroying documents 24/7 lately. I believe some powerful people are at risk of being sent to jail.  When the CPC gets finished investigating Liberal corruption, come next election the Liberal Party will be annihilated for a generation.

NOTE : You may have to wait until either this evening or tomorrow for CPAC to post that clip of his speech with Belinda-Bobble-Head in it. As of right now , they are only showing the Jan.20th stuff.

    Cheers & good luck.

    Joel :

I hope you caught Question Period today. Little Duffy (John) pretty much admitted that the campaign was over when he said the turning point was the Income Trust issue in the first part of January , in hindsight of course. John Reynolds reminded him that maybe the AdScam affair may have had something to do with it too , if they were looking for answers in the rear-view mirror.

The press pundits on CPAC (taped from Jan.19th ?) from the Globe ‘n Bail(?) dropped A-bomb after A-bomb on Martin and his party. I could not believe what I was seeing.

But then again , why would the press want to be caught on the losing side ? Maybe they realize that they’re dealing with a decision-maker now (Harper) and his memory is not short ?

The Star seems to think Bloggers did not make the difference this time around.

It sure wasn’t the MSM that came up with this brilliant parody, compliments of Joel.

    According to the Star
....True, there was the storm about the Liberal attack ads that was heightened by bloggers who parodied the spots. But the mainstream media (MSM) were all over that disaster right from the beginning.

    Who reads blogs?
    According to the Star….

...As for Mr. and Mississauga, well, statistics show they still rely on TV and newspapers to get their news — and they’re the ones whose ballots will decide the outcome of this vote.

    The Influence of Bloggers
    According to the Star….

Oh sure, the Canadian blogosphere can probably take credit for keeping the income trust scandal alive while the MSM, which broke the story, were waiting for new developments. But the blogs didn’t really advance the story, they mostly just railed about how the media weren’t ranting enough about it.
Bloggers also made a number of missteps, notably spreading false rumours about two CBC employees.
One was that CBC Radio One’s Promo Girl, Shauna MacDonald, was the voice of the Liberal attack ads. She wasn’t.
The other was that a hapless researcher for The National was trying to engineer one-sided, anti-Harper coverage.
An email she sent out in an attempt to solicit candidates for a gimmicky election program was misinterpreted, and circulated among the right-wing blogs. It cost her her job.

Read the rest of the story to see how Canadian Bloggers didnt “swift boat” any candidates or expose something on the scale of Dan Rather’s phoney George Bush story.

I guess Income Trust, Option Canada, Tony Valeri, Liberal staffers accusing others of sexual assault etc, etc, etc,. don’t count to the MSM.

    Conservativegal ,

A prerequisite for any future election should be that every home and/or voter in this country have access to a computer ==> Internet ==> Blogs ==> whole story.

Can you imagine how the poll numbers would look right now if everyone either had access to , or knew about blogs ??  Blogs have been a real eye-opener for me and I am now appauled at the lack of information with which voters continue to make decisions.

So , how long will it be before MSM tries to limit our access to informtion ? Do you think MSM will finally understand that they really cannot control free-speech , thought , and opinion ?  Case in point : 2006 Federal Election results.

Yes , John Duffy was kinda quiet today on QP.
Even he himself is now fully aware that he does not have much credibility left , and anything he says will just dig a deeper hole. To save face , the only thing he could say today that made sense was his admission that the Income Trust issue was the tipping point in the Liberal’s downfall.

I don’t want to jinx anything , but today for the first time in a long time , I think I might actually feel like I’m proud to be a Canadian again.

    Mister Kim:

At the moment, I have 6 tabs open on my browser - all to blogs.  When I read the story “before it happens” so to speak and tell people, they look at me funny and ask me where I heard it.  When I tell them, they thing I’m some kind of “conspiracy nut’ (I’m not kidding).

Then they see the same story on the MSM a few days later and I look kind of bored, saying “I told you that a few days ago.”

It’s a mindset that people have to hook into.  Canada is one of the most wired nations in the world and old habits such as the 6:00 news die hard.

Wheather is’s conservative, liberal, you name it - these blogs are not only a source of information, but you get to feel the mood of a whole country, from real people, not just what you’re fed on the news.  It encourages discussions and ideas which lead to change and progress.

I got hooked on blogs during the US election and have never looked back.  Media Research, NewsMax, the Drudge Report and Captains Quarters are among my many sources of information, along with the conventional ones such as papers, TV and radio.  I feel I’m well informed and can look at things from both sides of an issue.

Fox News is my mainstream US news station of choice - we had “grey market satellite” and their coverage of 9/11 was the best around. They’re still the best source of US and international news and love ‘em or hate ‘em, their talk shows generate discussion.

This site has been such a bright light in a long dark tunnel. I really thought I was out of touch until I got in here with like-minded people. #49…..I thought the same things you did.  “The lady doth protest too much”.....I don’t feel as if Paul Martin wants to stay in power so badly as that he’s afraid of what an investigation (or two or three) might uncover.

As for John Duffy, his thoughts/spin are so skewed and devious that I wondered how on earth he would actually expect anyone to buy his book on his thoughts on previous elections???  Mike Duffy, as part of the apology acceptance speech, gave John’s book some air-time, saying that it was one of the best around.

Well, you can imagine my surprise when I went to buy it.  They were sold out everywhere, and more copies were being published.

That was a joke by the way.  ;-) Like I would need his “take” on anything.

I won’t be proud to be Canadian until the Conservatives win at least two mandates in a row. To make sure it wasn’t just an anomaly. We may not even get a majority this time, although in Mizz. Copps’ most recent column there is this:

As Harper marches toward a likely majority tomorrow, the question haunting Martin and his loyal machine is how did the mighty fall this far, this fast?  Sheila Copps

I agree with Ms Copps…..I have a feeling that there will be a Conservative majority tomorrow night…..there’s a deep deep mood for change.

However, I also think that there’s a possibility that the Bloc could be the opposition.

Interesting note from a columnist in the Edmonton Journal that the possibility exists that the PM could be from Calgary (Stephen Harper) and that the leader of the opposition could be from Edmonton (Anne McLellan)....now that would put a new spin on the rivalry between Edmonton and Calgary.

Off Topic also - a little humor break here.

Paul Martin and a CSIS agent are taking a stroll when they come upon a little girl carrying a basket with a blanket over it.

Curious, Martin asks the girl, “What’s in the basket?”
She replies, “New baby kittens,” and she opens the basket to show him.

“How nice,” says Martin. “What kind are they?”
    The little girl says, “Liberals.”

Martin smiles, pats the little girl on the head and continues on.

Three weeks later, Martin is taking another stroll, this time with Jack Layton. They see the little girl again with the same basket. Martin says, “Watch this, Jack; it’s really cute.”

They approach the little girl. He greets the little girl and says “how are the kittens doing, and she says, “Fine.”

Then, smirking, he nudges Layton with his elbow and asks the little girl, “And can you tell us what kind of kittens they are?”

    She replies, “Conservatives.”

Abashed, Martin says, “But three weeks ago you said they were Liberals!”

“I know,” she says. “But now their eyes are open.”  ;-)
