Parliamentary Secretaries appointed
The PMO’s news release machine is running as fast as the Liberals’ paper shredders were last week.
Just released:
[...] Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the appointment of 26 new Parliamentary Secretaries to assist Ministers with their parliamentary duties.
“In the context of our smaller Cabinet, these Parliamentary Secretaries will take on a larger and more important role. They will be a key link between Ministers and Parliamentarians and will help ensure our relations with all Members of Parliament are effective and productive,” the Prime Minister said. “They are an important part of the team that will help implement the commitments we have made to Canadians.”
Parliamentary Secretaries support productive dialogue by sharing information and by bringing the concerns of Parliamentarians to the Minister, and within the government, along with other specific duties delegated by the Minister.
As public office holders, Parliamentary Secretaries are subject to the Conflict of Interest and Post-Employment Code for Public Office Holders.

Mark-Alan Whittle says:
Holy smokes, Harper means business. Removing the governance silo’s within the existing ministries is pure genius. Once again, Prime Miniser Harper sends another homer over the fence. The synergies this new governance model will create is the work-a-day-world dynamic that can really make this Parliament sing, for the little guy. Here’s to ‘popcorn and beer’ and Tim Horton’s Coffee.

Pardon me, Professor Whittle…can you elaborate on “governance silos?” I want to celebrate too. I just want to be sure I know what you are talking about!

How can someone be proud to be Canadian? That’s an oxy-moron. We Canadians do not have a single cultural component that unites us as one while distinguishing us from the rest of the world. It doesn’t mean anything to be Canadian, trust me I know because I’ve been one all of my life. I am not proud to be Canadian, I’m proud to be myself. This website is a joke!

Stick around , you might learn something.

Whenever I see a comment like that (#6) I think back to my days hanging out at Little Green Footballs, where I memorized what Charles says as a sort of a warning to commenters:
Lord, grant me the serenity to ignore the trolls, the courage to debate with honest opponents, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Re: (#6)
Tommie, Tommie, Tommie.
Has anything happened in your recent past that caused this confusion in your life?
Perhaps….let me think now….umm….maybe….oh, I know….the Liberals LOST the recent election.
Don’t worry though. Prime Minister Stephen Harper will help you with that little problem of yours.

Mark-Alan Whittle says:
Come on now debsimms, any agent of change would know what the ‘silo’ mentality entails. Miles and miles of red tape to gum up the governance works.
I consulted provincially with a past education minister respecting this very transition issue
There’s much clearer lines of accountability across ministries that effect education now, because as they say, there’s always a cause and effect.
The left hand is better of knowing what the right hand is doing, especially if they are attached to the same body, get it now debsimms?
The public service will come alive, now that they’ve been empowered to implement the mandate given to Prime Minister Harper by over 5 million Canadians that will benefit us all.

Congratulations to PMSH. He has made some sound appointments. While there are some familiar names not in cabinet (not everybody can be) these parliamentary secretaries will have heavy responsibilities in this minority parliament. Their day will come.
The Prime Minister and the party are going to need all Conservatives to support them as the punditry, chattering classes and the left leaning media endeavour to spin every decision as if the sky is falling.
We need to stick together and trust Harper is making the right decisions even when it is not obvious.Posted by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) from Saskatoon , Sk on Wed, February 08, 2006 at 4:55:06 AM

Thanks Whittle. Responsible agents of change also like to be sure that they understand terms in question before they agreee or disagree. In this case, I agree. Please don’t be snarky when you are politely asked to elaborate on your statements. There were likely many others who weren’t 100% sure what you meant. People should not be reluctant to ask for clarification on this site. Agents of change have to have the courage to look stupid sometimes to get the information they need. You comments are often very instructive, but if you react sarcastically when asked to elaborate…

Belly Button says:
Harper promised change. He’s got about 18 months to make a substantial difference under minority conditions. Before the cabinet was revealed there was a leak that some conservatives would be unhappy with Harper’s choices. So far nobody can accuse Stephen Harper of being corrupt or mean spirited. Every move made is deliberate and calculated to winning a majority in the near future ( go ahead and make more liberal comparisons) Stephen has smart advisors and is breaking new ground. Enjoy the surprises and enjoy the show.

Without Prejudice
Regarding The Seal Hunt
The McCartney’s
I find it disgusting that a BILLIONAIR IF NOT TRILLION-AIR can come to Canada without knowing the Facts or Truths about our Fisheries. YOU SAY it’s only a little bit of Monies The Fishermen and Their Families would Lose!
Well if that is the case PUT YOUR MONIES WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS, AND PAY THE FISHERMAN AND FAMILIES A FAIR SUM OF MONIES NOT TO GO OUT, IF YOU FEEL SO STRONGLY ABOUT THIS.
ALL TALK AND NO ACTION ON THE McCARTNEY’S PART.
Another solution may be, if you want the seals why don’t you buy them from the Fisherman alive and then take them to England. Would this not solve your problem, or perhaps just start another one, but it would at least be your problem then would it not.
Please Go Home and do not return, not even to play your music. I have gone to your concerts before, but NEVER AGAIN!
I Urge All Canadians To Boycott You and your Music especially if you ever come back here to tour. Now you are simply not welcome and it is FREE TO GO HOME!!!

Please forward this to other Canadians.Posted by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) from Ontario on Sun, March 05, 2006 at 11:12:06 AM
