Hollywood liberals get beat by grassroots folks

Written by Joel Johannesen on Thursday February 09 2006 at 12:26 PM

I don’t love the Hollywood liberals.  And Ujjal Dosanjh sounds very much like a communist to me.  These are two things that regular readers know about me.  There’s more too —like I love it when I get to showcase a liberal who is going crazy and starts to ooze brain poo.  I always make a point of featuring it here for you, to help your growing understanding of liberals.  You’re welcome.  Send money.

The entertainment industry has a special place in my heart though.  Do hearts have a toilet?  Clearly, I’m not a doctor, I only play a blogger on the internet so do drop clues in your comments, below. That’s how I learn.

“Reality” shows like American Idol fixate millions in Canada and America simply by virtue of the fact that the “idol worship” focuses not on those glamorous “Hollywood liberals” but on plain old grassroots Americans.  (I don’t think any of these people should be “idolized”, but that’s another thing.)  The only reason I like any reality TV is that it stars non-Hollywood liberal people.

I love that American Idol beat the liberal-fest Grammy Awards last night in the ratings.  Personally we didn’t watch either of them as we were down the street mingling openly with openly conservative folks over Chinese food.  We did tape the American Idol show though.

Carrie UnderwoodAt this point I’d like to remind readers that last year, at the very (very) beginning of American Idol 2005, I boldly predicted Carrie Underwood would win and become a massive hit, which she did.  Thank you.

Click for full-size documented proof of Joel's brillianceOh and I took the time to scan some actual documented proof for you (this scanned document actually qualifies as “proof” in the non-government world of normal Canadiana.  The CBC and CRTC be damned (in every way possible)).

You’ll notice upon review of the documented proof that my wife failed to record her choice, as like most people, she jammed out and wouldn’t commit until the last two days of American Idol, and then she was miraculously correct in her pick.  And she was the one who started the list and wrote what it was on the yellow sticky pad. Thank you.

Carrie Underwood’s debut album called “Some Hearts” was the number one country album on the Billboard charts for many weeks and is now double platinum in the U.S., and her song “Jesus Takes The Wheel” (listen at the link) topped the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.  That’s who folks chose, on their own, and continue to choose.

Meanwhile, I’m not sure how many people have watched the CBC’s teen Ball Waxing video, which you paid for with your tax dollars and which the state-run media deemed worthy of presenting for our nations’ teens.  Probably quite a few now that I’ve brought your attention to it.  But I like Carrie Underwood’s values a lot better, and she’s just plain folk.

But anyway I loved this ironic example (hat tip to Matt Drudge) of the tacit rejection of the “Hollywood liberal idol worship” that is the Grammy Awards (Madonna, gangsta rappers, et al —liberals all of them), while turning instead to American Idol last night.

Is it a watershed moment in TV or cultural history?  A turning point?  Hardly.  But I think if I were an entertainment executive (as more conservatives should and really must be—I can’t stress this enough), then I’d pay attention to what people actually want rather then trying to tell them what they want.  Earth to CBC and CRTC and liberals: We WILL take control.

SHOCK: ‘IDOL’ AMATEURS BEAT ‘GRAMMY’ PROS IN RATINGS
Thu Feb 09 2006 09:01:52 ET

How 100+ wannabes Outrated Madonna, U2, Kanye

The music business suffered another embarrassment Wednesday night—when AMERICAN IDOL’s Hollywood cattle call drew a larger audience than THE GRAMMY AWARDS!

The amateur pop contest was easily the top-rated show of the night, NIELSEN claimed, with a 17.4 rating/26 share to GRAMMY’s 12.3 rating/19 share.

In direct competition at 8 pm ET, IDOL hit 27 share to GRAMMY’s 16 share.

[The industry’s top music awards slipped from 2005 levels [12.3/19 vs. 13.2/20] early numbers show.]

With IDOL, FOX won the night over CBS: 12.7 rating/18 share to 12.5/18.

I’m no fan of either “Idol,” but I’m no Grammy fan, either.

I laughed when I saw the story but stopped laughing when I saw this gallery of Grammy “winners” on Canoe today.  It’s a freak show. Real good role models for today’s youth.

    Grammy Winners

Also on Canoe, Bill Brioux described this year’s awards as more “numbing sameness.”

Read here for his description of this year’s freak show.

I’m with you 100%.  Long since sworn off award telecasts.  I have only so much patience for another Kanye West, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins/Susan Sarandon, Bono whine fest about the big bad world and that all the world should be just like their palatial homes in Beverley Hills…yada yada yada….

Great link Joel, Carrie Underwood is clean, talented, grassroots, pretty, Christian, and likely conservative. What great music she brings.

I too believe that when given a choice, the people will choose good over evil, light over darkness, honesty over deceit, and right over wrong.

But when I see the kind of depravity that permeates the Internet, the freest form of communication around, I really wonder?

Why are you writing about a talentless manufactured drone and a TV show that is only liked by trailer parks and idiots?

I could hardly believe “ProudToBeCanadian” was available when I was looking for a web site domain name.  No liberal thought of it?  It took a true blue CONSERVATIVE to think of buying that name and starting a web site built around it?  What does that tell you?  ...  Please remember to support this site.

Joel, if Johnathan thinks Carrie is ‘talentless’, I think you have some CBC programming he’d be interested in.

My guess is that’s the kind of ‘talent’ ol’ Johnathan would like.
