It’s like I planned it: Secret Liberal memos reveal terrorist plot to blow up Toronto subway

I just wrote explaining that we’re not prepared in any conceivable way for the terrorist threat in this country, thanks to the liberal-left in its many forms (government, media, academia…). 

As if on cue, this report comes out:

Prime minister given two briefings on suspected threats to Toronto subway

Prime Minister Paul Martin was briefed twice on suspicious incidents that led security officials to fear the Toronto subway might be attacked by terrorists.

Internal memos obtained by The Canadian Press show senior officials were sufficiently concerned about the spring 2004 episodes to inform the prime minister on two separate occasions. The documents, drafted by national security advisers, are the latest indication federal officials believe Islamic extremists could assault a mass-transit network in Canada.

[...] But the documents evidently focus on incidents that took place in Canada’s largest city just a month after the deadly attacks on commuter trains near Madrid in March 2004.

An Egyptian-Canadian man was questioned extensively by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service after being spotted videotaping the interior of a Toronto subway station.

Charges were never laid and the man subsequently filed a lawsuit seeking financial compensation and a letter declaring his innocence.

What is this—a secret?  They don’t want to admit we’re a target, yet they expect us to be prepared in some special way?  Perhaps this would distract from gay marriage which is far more important to liberals?

Both classified memos were forwarded to the prime minister by Privy Council clerk Alex Himelfarb. Each has a handwritten notation indicating Martin had seen it.

[...] The first, dated May 3, 2004, is entitled Incidents at the Toronto Transit Commission Subway. The second, Threat to Toronto Subway - Update, was sent seven days later.

On May 4, 2004, Toronto’s transit commission issued an urgent notice to employees advising caution and asking staff to be on the lookout for suspicious packages and people.

Hey I know: for a funky experiment in national security far less risky than the experiment on Canada and Canadian familes and children and life itself through your gay ‘marriage’ nonsense,  how about y’all letting us know about this sort of thing?  Maybe we could, you know, save thousands of Canadian lives?  No?  Not worth it?  Too politically dicey?  I see. 

An earlier memo to Martin from Himelfarb, sent following the Madrid bombings, noted that British authorities planned to place undercover “train marshals” on railways and in the London subway system as part of measures to prevent attacks.

“The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) notes that threats are made on a regular basis in Canada and are duly investigated, and that while specific targets are not mentioned, Canada remains an al-Qaida target,” said the secret memo of March 15, 2004.

But here’s the assurance from our benevolent government:

The “national blueprint for transport security” is expected next spring.  No hurry.
