Come terrorists, share my umbrella of love.

Mahmoud Abbas, a contender for leadership of the Palestinian Authority, is a Holocaust denier.

But to show you how bizarre things are, after Arafat, a simple Holocaust denier is considered by many as a fantastic replacement for leader of the Palestinian Authority in their “negotiations” with Israel.  That should tell you something about Arafat and the Palestinian Authority.

This story has me wondering what all those anti-Israel liberals think, since they’ve been making nothing but excuses for the Palestinian murder of innocent Israeli citizens for years, as supported by terrorist organizations including Saddam Hussein.

Abbas calls for end to armed uprising.

JERUSALEM (AP) – The armed uprising against Israel is a mistake and must end, interim Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in an interview published Tuesday, signaling his determination to change direction after Yasser Arafat’s death.

Palestinian militants have enjoyed broad support among Palestinians during more than four years of conflict with Israel. Abbas’ affirmation of a somewhat unpopular view comes at the height of his campaign for Palestinian Authority president.

[…]

But Abbas said that currently Palestinian security is in a state of chaos.

“Frankly, the Palestinian (security) apparatus needs discipline. There is security chaos, that’s why were demanding and are seeking to unify the security apparatus,” Abbas told Asharq al-Awsat.

[…]

And yet this apparent denial of reality—and appeasement to terrorists—speaks volumes:

[…] Abbas also said he was in talks with the militant Islamic groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, to bring them into the framework of the PLO, an umbrella group for Palestinian parties.

However, Abbas’ efforts to persuade the militants to halt attacks on Israelis in the run-up to the vote suffered a setback Sunday when Hamas and a Fatah offshoot dug a tunnel under an Israeli post on the Gaza-Egypt border, blowing it up and killing five Israeli soldiers.

Quick Review:

”…the militant Islamic groups, Hamas and Islamic Jihad”?!  These aren’t “militant Islamic groups”, they’re known terrorist groups.  Both Canada and the United States and other nations have both of these groups on their official terrorist group watch lists.  Abbas wants to bring them into the framework of the PLO?  How about:  denounce them; and fight them; and arrest them as known terrorists?

  • Abbas is a founding member of Fatah, along with the terrorist Yasser Arafat.  Fatah is the biggest faction of the PLO, which Fatah ultimately took over with Arafat as leader.

  • Fatah began carrying out terrorist raids against Israeli targets in 1965, launched from Jordan, Lebanon and Egyptian-occupied Gaza (so as not to draw reprisals against Syria). Dozens of raids were carried out each year, exclusively against civilian targets.

  • The word “Fatah” means “conquest by means of jihad [Islamic holy war]”.

  • Though considered a moderate, Abbas also has made numerous radical statements, for example, claiming that the Nazis killed “only a few hundred thousand Jews,” not six million. He has recanted on some of these in recent years.  When Abbas explicitly refused to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in the PA, as required by the Road Map to Peace, the peace process faltered.

  • He wrote a book called The Other Side: the Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism.  In his book, Abbas raised doubts that gas chambers were used for extermination of Jews, and suggested that the number of Jews murdered in the Holocaust was “less than a million.”
