Conservatives up in polls? Invoke the “Trudeau”!

The media invoking the name “Trudeau” is sure to cheer up many liberals in liberal-land.  And socialists.  And Fidel Castro.

Conservatives will roll their eyes and after thinking about it a bit, laugh.  The media are always wrong, as we’ve seen by their hideous miscalculations about the Conservative Party and its quiet, meaningful progress in such a short time, plus Prime Minister Harper’s explosive 60% approval rating, and how well that party and the new Conservative government are playing in main street Canada (sans Torontokistan)

Having digested yesterday’s polling numbers which indicate a great rise in popularity for the Conservatives and for Stephen Harper since the election despite the liberal-left media efforts to the contrary,  it was easy to predict that the Liberals and their media would invoke the name just to try to distract from that horror show.  Well that and George Bush and America.

They now try to attach “Trudeau” to every new Liberal Party leadership hopeful just to test its sticking power (somehow I can’t see Pierre Trudeau peeing on his boyfriend but let’s compare him to Ashley MacIsaac anyway).  They can’t wait for the Michael Ignatieff announcement for this very reason.  Then they can say “Trudeau” 80 times a day.  (I snicker in anticipation).

Unfortunately for them, none of the candidates are like Pierre Trudeau, since he is of course manifestly dead. Not to worry—he’s got sons.  So as Conservative fortunes grow, listen for the mention of any Trudeau over and over. They think this will help them.  Let them think this.

Liberals recruit Trudeau’s eldest son to rebuild party

Justin Trudeau’s role on panel seen as entry onto political stage

The Liberals have persuaded Justin Trudeau, son of the former prime minister, to lead a task force designed to help the party renew itself.

Mr. Trudeau, 34, is to head a “youth task force” which is part of a renewal project examining how the party can rebuild itself in the wake of the recent election defeat.

While his role would be far from seeking office, it is seen as his entry onto the political stage that his father dominated a generation earlier. […]

But I will keep the following little quote in my quote file.  I blogged this Justin quote a couple of weeks ago, when the media brought up “Trudeau”, when he was talking about the “Katimavik” youth program.

“As you look at what the Conservative government stands for, it’s the engagement of the individual, the empowerment of everyone, and the taking on of personal responsibility, not just waiting for the government to do anything,” he says. “That’s what this program’s all about: Sending young people out there to take on the world and make a difference.”
