PTBC J-Log
A conservative OPINION blog --with bite. OPINION by Joel Johannesen.Thursday, January 29, 2009
Canadian public school principal cans singing of Canada’s national anthem; cites “inclusion”
This is liberalism at work. It’s what they call “progressive”. It’s what I call “liberal-left idiocy” and “lunacy”. And “anti-Canadian”.
(my highlighting)
New Brunswick school silences O Canada
... Erik Millett, the school’s principal, said he made the decision partly to accommodate parents who didn’t want their children taking part in the daily anthem. He would not say why the parents didn’t want their kids taking part, citing privacy reasons.
“We try to balance the needs of every student, and we want every student to feel welcome in our school,” Millett said.
“If we need to make some accommodations or exceptions, then we’ll try to put those in place regardless of what the issue is.”
Nearly all elementary students in the district sing the anthem every day. But that decision is up to each school.
For his school, Millett said this change was part of a package of reforms designed to make the school feel more inclusive and to allow the school to run more smoothly. ...
Is it because the national anthem includes the words “God keep our land, glorious and free”?
Or is it because the kids (two sisters, the angelic Julia and Kara Boyd), who were singing it daily for the school, said it reminded them of their cousin, Private David Robert Greenslade, who was killed in Afghanistan fighting for Canada, and the song reminded the girls of the troops fighting there?
Is this move to appease immigrant students from other nations who have one of those yummy multicultural hyphens in between their original country and “Canadian”? Is it to appease the folks from The Nation Of Quebec?
Who knows. Erik Millett, the school Principal (not “principle”), won’t say, citing the “privacy” of those whose parents don’t want it sung anymore in Canada.
EXTRA INFO
• Belleisle Elementary is the name of the school.
•
The schools’ Principal, Erik Millet, ran as a candidate for the liberal-left’s Green Party division.
...While in Ottawa, he worked as a community-based economic and social development consultant, a project officer with the United Nations Association in Canada and as a staff member of the national youth programme Katimavik. Also during this time Erik was a lobbyist and social activist on a number of important national and international issues, including: the anti-apartheid movement, the environment, homelessness, human rights, the rights of indigenous peoples, the liberation of East Timor, nuclear disarmament, as well as being actively involved in the peace movement.
[...]
Erik has also lived and worked abroad ... have shaped his worldview to that of a “green internationalist.”
[...]
We need political vision which can transcend traditional nationalistic boundaries; only the Green Party is positioned to offer this type of long term political leadership in a complex and interdependent world.
[...]
...recently trained in Montreal with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Al Gore as a presenter and facilitator of “An Inconvenient Truth.”
• Belleisle’s web page cites the fact that they endorse a district-wide initiative called “Celebrate What’s Right with the World”. Here’s a thought: CANADA is what’s right with the world. No I know—that’s not “inclusive”. After all, we’re “a nation of immigrants”. We’re “multicultural”. A “melting pot”. Must appease the minorities.
Its monthly agenda, presumably to be taught to the kids, includes this for December 2008:
“Spirit of cooperation, not competition”
Not competition? There’s something wrong with competition?
• Ironically, on the video accompanying the explanation of the “Celebrate What’s Right with the World"program, “O Canada” is sung (beautifully) for the students by what looks like a teacher at one of the district’s schools.
• Email the Principal of the school at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
• Erik Millet has a B.A. Degree in “International Human Rights”. Well of course he does.
• On the school’s web site, on its “Links” page, there are four links, one of which is to CBC for Kids: (http://www.cbc.ca/kids). That explains so much.

• If you think PTBC has no value, then don't pay anything for it. It will fade into the sunset. That's the free market at work.
