PTBC J-Log
A conservative OPINION blog --with bite. OPINION by Joel Johannesen.Monday, March 31, 2008
ANNOUNCEMENT: ProudToBeCanadian.ca —and editor Joel J. —now officially LIBERAL
I’ve done some long and hard thinking these past couple of months.
I’m no conservative. I am actually a liberal, and I’m going to “come out of the closet” as it were and just “be”. A Liberal.
I was a Liberal as a younger fella, as you can see from this picture from back in the day, when I was a Liberal Party “insider” and “backroom” boy —OK I was little more than the pool boy— but Pierre Trudeau so awed and inspired me that it turns out… why it turns out his spell was indelible. It —he— has stuck with me for life.
I do understand this will come as a shock to many people, but it’s something I feel I have to do.
We should all be honest, and principled.
Vote Liberal.

That’s right. Don’t resist. Just lay back and relax and let liberalism penetrate your entire being. Stop thinking for yourself and start to feel the love. Soon Utopian dreams and good intentions will rule your life. Of course once liberalism has taken hold of you, you’ll find everybody likes you and that’s important to liberals. The need for acceptance and group reinforcement is powerful on the left. It’s good to be able to comment again. But judging from Joels post it won’t last long. Joel will end up in rehab. Maybe it’s the power of Justin that’s overwhelming. It’s like a vibe.

You are not proud to be a Canadian, you are angry that you live in a country where the majority of the people think nothing like you.
Canada is liberal and that is why we kick so much ass.
And that is why you are so pissed off about it, the political and cultural life of Canada is left wing and it works, beautifully.
I’m proud to be Canadian for that reason, why are you I wonder?

I sence a bit of bitterness coming from Mr. Salvage? I guess he’s still hanging on to his memories of the good ole’ days of Liberal rule, and perhaps hasn’t clued in to the fact that not all of Canada is as left wing as he would like (that’s why you’re Liberal behinds were thrown out of government in 2006—get over it).

Now I know Mr. salvage won’t agree with me,because he is obviously a liberal or an NDPer, shudder, and either one of those think every one who hears what they have to say agrees with them and actually cares
If a political party were to offer Canada a real conservative platform, with lower taxes and less government, and stuck to their principles they would have majority governments all the time. The big problem is every time we get a conservative choice we elect a minority government. This minority government is forced by the opposition and the media to compromise, ending up looking as weak as liberals.
Next time an election comes around. People say"Hell, might as well vote for Liberals as pretend liberals.” Off goes Canada into a Euroliberal welfare state, multicultural overtaxed mess

salvage says:
Uh huh.
Name one conservative policy that Harper has enacted.
And teh Tories are still the minority party, if Canada is truly right wing why aren’t they in power proper?
The Liberals lost because they were corrupt and lazy, smacking them down is what you do to governments like that as the voters did. I didn’t vote for them because they didn’t deserve it.
But here’s the difference, if the Tories were likewise busted you would jump up and down defending them and vote for them anyway.
You are far more interested in “winning” than being right.
But the reality is Canada is a liberal country and even our right wing party really isn’t all that right wing.
Gay marriage? Legal.
Abortion? Legal.
Taxes? No big cuts.
Health care? Socialized.
And the majority of Canadians like all that stuff and it would be the end of Harper if he messed with them.
And that’s what drives you buggering, gibbering mad.
Like your endless rants about the CBC, Canadians love the CBC and wouldn’t want Canada to be without it.
So tell me, what exactly are you proud of? From what I can tell all you do is bitch endlessly about Canada not being what you want it to be.
I also think you just want to live in America but are too lazy / poor to make the move.

Who ever said Canada was right wing? We don’t have any right wing partys’ to speak of that we could vote for. Canadians may love the CBC but how many? What are the viewership numbers? Does it justify 1 billion dollars a year in taxpayer money. Take away HNIC and what would be left? As far as the CPC goes they have in fact made some progress. The age of consent for one thing off the top of my head. They are steadily rebuilding and investing in our armed forces.

>Who ever said Canada was right wing?
No one, it’s not, that’s what upsets this blog’s author so.
>We don’t have any right wing partys’ to speak of that we could vote for.Yes you do, they’re just so out of the mainstream.
>Canadians may love the CBC but how many?
The majority.
>What are the viewership numbers?
Dunno but an awful lot.
>Does it justify 1 billion dollars a year in taxpayer money.
A bargain at half the price for maintaining Canadian identity against the US media juggernaut.
>Take away HNIC and what would be left?
News, other sports, entertainment etc.
>As far as the CPC goes they have in fact made some progress. The age of consent for one thing off the top of my head.
Ah yes, raising it from 14 to 16, wow I’m sure that’s going to make all kinds of differences.
Is there anyone actually objecting to this?
>They are steadily rebuilding and investing in our armed forces.
Yes, too slow. Thats one of the things I liked about the Tories getting in but turns out they’re not doing much about it. Harper promised:
* Buying at least three new strategic lift aircraft;
* Creating a new, 650-strong airborne battalion; and
* Doubling the size and capacity of Canada’s Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to enhance international disaster relief capability.
Two years ago.
Any of it happen?

Sorry I couldn’t finish my thoughts as I was dragged away. I think salvage sounds like a frightened liberal worried that the failed socialist experiment is going to come to an end. He certainly holds the views of our MSM and left close to his heart obviously. His conclusions about the wonders of socialism brought to us by the LPC are based on ignoring the outcomes of failed utopian dreams and lies. When confronted with reality reach for the Prozac. Liberalism is a mental illness.
Posted by Dacre from on Wed, April 02, 2008 at 8:42:04 AM -
Dacre says:
Judging by your last post salvage you are living in some parallel universe. Show me the numbers for the the CBC audience not your feelings. And when it comes to the age of consent the LPC was against it. Always were. The perception of left and right wing has been skewed and manipulated in order to make unthinking people like yourself get a false world view and consider what used to be liberal as extreme right wing. The left has set the goal posts. And with your comment on a billion dollars is worth protecting our Canadian identity from the evil Americans. What about the billions we spend on multiculturalism to illiminate our Canadian cultural identity? You obviously read the Toronto Star and watch the CBC. That’s why you make such a misinformed comments. You are an example of what has happened to this country. Frightening really.

Hahah! Yes! Canada is failing!
>He certainly holds the views of our MSM and left close to his heart obviously.
We call that reality, some people are immune to it.
>Show me the numbers for the the CBC audience not your feelings.
I have no idea where to find them (that sort of data is valuable, hard to get for free)
but I do know that the majority of Canadians watch CBC.>And when it comes to the age of consent the LPC was against it. Always were.
Uh huh:
Widespread public support’ for law, Toews says
Toews said there is “widespread public support” for the proposed legislation among law enforcement and child protection agencies, as well as ordinary Canadians.
He said he believes the bill will have enough support from opposition parties to pass in a House of Commons vote.Several high-profile criminal cases have pushed both internet luring and the age-of-consent issues into the spotlight in the past few years.
In one luring case, a 31-year-old Edmonton man was sentenced in December 2005 to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old autistic girl he met through an internet chat room.
Are you sure you know what you’re talking about?
>And with your comment on a billion dollars is worth protecting our Canadian identity from the evil Americans.
Where did I say the Americans were “evil”?
>What about the billions we spend on multiculturalism to illiminate our Canadian cultural identity?
More stuff to be proud of, we all live in peace and prosperity. That is our identity and one that I take great pride in.
>You obviously read the Toronto Star and watch the CBC.
Nope and nope. I get all my news off the net and I don’t watch any TV save for shows I dl off bittorrent.
>That’s why you make such a misinformed comments. You are an example of what has happened to this country. Frightening really.

The widespread support you supply evidence of is public support not LPC support or NDP support or Bloc support. Maybe that should tell you something about the preconceived notions and typical liberal assumptions you make. And that is the last I will respond to your manufactured view of Canada. You have a classic case of liberalism and are therefore a waste of time and energy. Knock yourself out living the dream baby.

I notice salvage you have the liberal tendency to associate liberalism with Canada. Attacking liberalism is not attacking Canada. You have been trained to equate the 2 as one in the same. They are not. Again you really don’t rate any response for any comments on any issue from anyone in my opinion.
