PTBC J-Log
A conservative OPINION blog --with bite. OPINION by Joel Johannesen.Monday, June 08, 2009
Liberalvision CTV finds “U.S.-backed” Lebanon victory; not “Canadian-backed”?
I don’t think Canada was supporting the terrorist organization Hezbollah. In fact, we’ve shown more than the typically passive, pacifist, do-nothing, take-no-world-leadership-role, liberal-left position on the Lebanon file — including actually taking a firm position on terrorists — since Prime Minister Harper was elected. But apparently in this case the CTV isn’t so sure.
Then again, I don’t think CTV is supporting Harper.
(Obama? Yes. Harper? Not so much.)
Even in the written Associated Press report that liberalvision CTV is ostensibly getting their news from, it declares a “Western-backed” bloc won the day. Not a “U.S.-backed” bloc.
Pro-Western bloc beats Hezbollah in Lebanon vote
Updated Mon. Jun. 8 2009 12:17 PM ET
The Associated PressBEIRUT—Lebanon’s Western-backed coalition defeated Hezbollah and its allies, according to official results Monday that dealt a stunning setback to the Iranian-backed militants and set the stage for renewed political deadlock in the volatile nation.
Couldn’t any of those intrepid CTV news investigamographers and journalists incur the expense of a Toronto-Ottawa long-distance telephone call—or perhaps a free email— and inquire as to whom Canada was backing, in case there was any question? Apparently not.
Even the Obama-loving state-owned, socialism-reliant, and fully undecided about Hezbollah being bad in when compared with the pushy U.S. imperialists CBC found a positive “Canadian-backed” angle to the story (possibly because they get all that state funding which can pay for long distance calls!), and admitted in their story:
...Corporate sponsors paid for hundreds of supporters of the pro-Western Future Movement in Calgary and in other Canadian cities to fly to Lebanon last week in order to cast their ballots. ...“There [are] sponsors in the world who [pay] for those tickets … European companies, Middle Eastern companies who … they would love to see free Lebanon, independent Lebanon,” Faouzi Salem, a Future Movement co-ordinator in Calgary, told CBC News in an interview last week….
From Calgary yet! And “Corporate” even! Shnikies!
I don’t know what CTV is up to pro-Obama, not pro-Harper **cough**. Personally, I’m on Canada’s side.
