Left-wing feminist political group gets $150,000 federal TAXPAYER funding

I remember the “National Action Committee on the Status of Women” as a zealous political group which was rabidly anti-conservative and pro-everything-left-wing, like abortion, and all those other liberal-left causes. And I could be wrong, but it seems to me they outright promoted lesbianism; and they totally fell out of favor even among women for that reason and because it devolved into nothing more than yet another division of the liberal-left in this country. You know, like the Supreme Court of Canada division of the Liberal Party and the CBC division of the Liberal Party (both of which live on and continue to serve the liberals’ needs wonderfully well), for example.  And women were already sending cash to the Liberal and NDP parties so saw no need for this duplication.

But apparently I was wrong.  Apparently the “women’s committee”, or the NACSoW, is so popular among women that it, well, now needs to be revived by federal funding because they are still completely unable to raise a stinking dime on their own.  That’s popular, liberal-style!

Here’s the math, liberal-style:  When some lefty interest group or institution or bureaucracy proves to be a complete and utter train wreck in terms of usefulness and popularity, then it becomes a liberal-left cause celebre, and requires more taxpayer funding.  That’s how liberals think.  Create it, it fails, apply more money, it fails more, apply more money, collapses, royal commission, rinse, repeat.  Vote liberal.

It could never survive on its own, any more than the CBC could. To liberals, this says nothing of need or popularity.  What matters is how it helps the liberals re-engineer society and attitudes to their favor.

NACSoW fell apart after taxpayer funding was cut some years ago, is now in massive debt to taxpayers for failing even to pay its taxes, and is so popular, liberal-style, that it still can’t regain itself without $150,000 in federal taxpayer funding.  Women so like and need this NACSoW thing that they can’t afford to support it at all themselves, or refuse to even bother, apparently.  That’s liberal-style need

Well, I refuse to fund this web site.  Plus, it’s not really that popular, especially among the liberal-left!  Now lay some cash on me!  Oh.  That’s not how it works, huh?

Conference on feminism’s future planned

VANCOUVER (CP)—The National Action Committee on the Status of Women, once Canada’s most prominent feminist group, has won federal government funding to host a national conference to try and renew the movement.

“If we can rise again . . . out of the ashes, the National Action Committee on the Status of Women will be a 21st century women’s organization,” said spokeswoman Bev Meslo. “First, we have to redefine what NAC should be doing in the 21st century.”

The federal government cut core funding for the umbrella group of Canadian women’s organizations in 1997. Since then, it has spiralled into debt. It owed the Canada Revenue Agency $30,000 in unpaid taxes, and racked up another $30,000 in interest.

A year ago, its answering machine was cut off and no staff were left to answer the phone at NAC’s Toronto headquarters.

It is still pleading with the CRA for debt forgiveness, especially for the $30,000 it owes in interest payments.

Despite the situation, Status of Women Canada thought the feminist group deserved one last chance at a comeback. It has given NAC funding for conferences to discuss how to put the organization back together.

The group proposed the project in 2002 and it was denied. NAC will receive $150,000 this year, the amount it has said it needs to get back on its feet.

“The funding provided through a contribution agreement that will attach payment to progress made in the implementation of the initiatives,” said Nanci-Jean Waugh, a spokeswoman for Status of Women.

That means NAC must hold regional meetings and a national conference to come up with a mandate and direction for the organization. It also has to elect people to implement the plan it develops for its future. […]

P.S.
What does “The funding provided through a contribution agreement that will attach payment to progress made in the implementation of the initiatives” mean?  I’m sorry, I’m not bilingual and I don’t speak liberal.
