Like communist countries, liberals require a Canada of no religion in order to “progress”.

This Ted Byfield (Calgary Sun) column comes in with elegant timing—right on the heels of Pope John Paul’s passing, and in light of so much of what the liberals are doing to our Canada.  I also made a blog entry in reference to a point he makes here, about Bishop Frederick Henry and his new battle to preserve his religious freedom—already under legal attack by a gay advocate, right on schedule, precisely as conservatives and other sensible people across this land warned, to which liberals arrogantly guffawed and chortled:  Nonsense!  This won’t happen!  We will protect religious freedoms!

Of course it is nonsense—I mean that the liberals are saying they’ll protect religious freedoms.  They absolutely require that religious freedoms are quashed—that moral standards are allowed to freefall unhindered by the annoying warnings and admonitions by bastions of morality such as Christians like Bishop Henry.

The liberals’ plans for Canada rely heavily on a further destruction of moral values.  Their gay “marriage” plans, redefining the word “family”, pot-smoking made legal, prostitution made legal, continued taxpayer-funded abortions available to all at any time for any reason whatsoever no questions asked, and so much more, rely on a measure of silence from the teachers and monitors of morals in our world.

Thus many liberals secretly, quietly celebrated or were completely unmoved by the death of the Pope—another hindrance removed; and the death of Terri Schiavo was a triumph over morality and its annoying “culture of life”; and millions of taxpayer-funded aborted babies is something they fight for as if it were a national virtue rather than an abominable, extreme act.

Indeed, they call those of us who are pro-life “extremists” in a bizarre leap of logic and even common sense.  As if to help prove my case, see this horrendous column written by a liberal-leftist extremist, Mindelle Jacobs, which she entitled “Morgentaler a hero” (and pro-life people are “extremists”), and her latest in which she demands further destruction of morals in a column she aptly entitles “Time to purge dubious moral laws”).

And now they war against religion, Christianity in particular, which stands in the way of their “progress”.  That’s “progressive”.  That’s “liberal”.

It seems almost fitting that the next major step in the gradual outlawing of Christianity in Canada should be taken by one of our so-called “human rights” commissions.

For, if the Alberta commission in fact hails Calgary’s Catholic bishop before it to answer charges that, by proclaiming church doctrine and the teaching of the Bible he is preaching “hate,” then surely an important milestone will have been reached.

It will mean that wherever Christian teaching contradicts the moral certitudes of the New Canada, then Christians—clergy and laymen alike—will be ordered to shut up.

And as the norms of the New Canada depart ever farther from those of the Canada that once was, the restrictions against Christian practice and teaching will widen.

How long, therefore, before the faith itself is prohibited in the New Canada’s ongoing march of “human rights?”

Not very long, perhaps.
