PTBC welcomes Susan Martinuk to columnist team

For those of you looking at the floating columnist margin over there on the right of our pages, no, PTBC is not doing Double-Mint gum commercials now as a way to raise cash (although that wouldn’t be beneath us).  The latest two columns from new PTBC columnist team member Susan Martinuk just happened to both be from today!  One appeared in the National Post, and one in the Calgary Herald—both newspapers she now writes for.

image We’re glad to have Susan Martinuk’s columns at PTBC.  They will appear here every Friday and sometimes more often.

Susan thinks like we do on most issues, which is to say she’s right. She’s also Canadian.  And she’s a woman.  These are all good things.  More Canadian women need to think like she does:  which is right!  One of the biggest and most annoying “gender gaps” in this country to me is the “gender gap” between men and women voting for conservatives (males tend to, females, not so much).

As you can see, I’ve already posted the latest of her columns, and they are all good and topical.  For example one of them challenges the state-run CBC, so you have to know she’s on the right track!  Another challenges embryonic stem-cell research.  Another challenges the ridiculous recent and very fancy Bali environmental conference and hogwash convention.  Another dethrones pot-dealer and criminal (and cause célèbre amongst hippies, “progressives” and too many otherwise bright libertarians) Marc Emery.  You see a trend here?  It’s called taking the right stand, and putting it out there.

I think Susan will help explain the difference between liberals and conservatives, and help present the right way to consider important subjects.  That’s half our goal here.

Here’s her updated bio as taken from her bio page here:

Take one ovary specialist-turned-writer, add a huge dose of humour and a remarkable ability to bring clarity to the complex social and political issues facing Canadians today … mix well and what do you get?  Susan Martinuk, a freelance writer and speaker on public policy issues and current affairs.

Susan is a weekly columnist for the Calgary Herald, and a frequent contributor to the National Post. She has published over 1000 editorial columns in major newspapers across Canada, and her weekly column was featured on the editorial pages of The Province for over 10 years. She has been a syndicated columnist for Hollinger’s Sterling News Service and, for five years, hosted a Vancouver radio talk show on social and political issues.

Susan was formerly a successful researcher in reproductive technologies and infertility; she and her colleagues were credited with a world-first medical breakthrough for visualizing and recording the process of human ovulation.  Despite receiving numerous awards and authoring over 20 scientific publications, ethical concerns eventually led her to resign from her PhD studies at an infertility clinic.

Since then, Susan has written and spoken extensively across Canada on issues related to new medical technologies. She is a member of The Canadian Bioethics Society and has consulted with groups on the ethical implications of the human genome project, as well as on the development of commercial biotechnology projects.

She continues to speak nationally on issues related to biotechnology and public policy, and her presentations have made her a frequent speaker at conferences.

I’m sure you will enjoy her columns, and I hope her exposure here at PTBC will help her bring attention to her columns and her point of view on things.
