So isn’t this an ‘election advertising’ web site too?

I got this email today regarding my web site called CaroleJamesSaid.ca, which I started the other day in order to help shed light on, well, what Carole James Said.

Carole James is the leader of the NDP in BC.  Like most people, I don’t want her and her socialist NDP party to win the May 17 election and ruin British Columbia, where I live with my overtaxed, over-regulated family and try to run an overtaxed, over-regulated business against nearly impossible odds, in the incessant rain and chilly weather.

Dear Joel Johannesen,

Your Web site, http://www.carolejamessaid.ca, has been brought to the attention of Elections BC.  Any advertising during the campaign period (April 19   May 17, 2005) that promotes or opposes, directly or indirectly, the election of a registered political party or candidate, is considered to be election advertising.  Election advertisers must register with Elections BC.  The required form to register can be downloaded from the Elections BC Web site at http://www.elections.bc.ca/general/422.pdf.  There are serious consequences for not registering as an election advertiser.

In addition, an authorization statement is required on all advertising, which includes the http://www.carolejamessaid.ca Web site.  This authorization statement must indicate that it was authorized by the identified sponsor, include the name of a contact, as well as a phone number or address in BC at which the individual can be reached.  An example of an authorization statement is as follows:

Authorized by Right Thinking Canadians; Jane Doe, registered sponsor.  (604)-888-9999

If you have any questions, please contact me at one of the contact options listed below.

I wonder how long it takes to get all registered and everything.  The election is May 17.  This year

And what should I do with this web site?  I guess I’ll have to register it too.  So will thousands of other people in Canada.  They better hurry.

Please folks, register your weapons at your nearest free speech registry.
