B.C. government-certified schools in China: teachers told to deflect human rights criticism to U.S.

Setting them up to be good, Communist-appeasing, anti-American, politically-correct liberal-leftist minions for their new life in Canada and America?  Sounds like it.  And the B.C. government has its liberal fingers all over it.

According to a story in the Vancouver Sun today, two independent schools operating in China, certified by the B.C. Education Ministry, are there to teach the B.C. provincial curriculum and to graduate students with an official B.C. education certificate.  They are ostensibly designed to give easy access to Chinese students who choose to attend post-secondary institutions in North America.  (Frankly, it seems colleges here are replete with Chinese, as are our cities.  So… why?  Who knows!  Don’t ask!)

The schools charge tuition fees and send a portion of that money to the B.C. government.  The teachers are all licensed by the B.C. College of Teachers—a body largely owned by the militant left-wing (and some credibly say Marxist-dominated) B.C. Teachers Union.  Some of the teachers are from B.C., while some are from elsewhere in Canada and other countries as well.

So far it sounds good and socialist and adhering to the typical liberal-left multi-cult obsession; par for the course in Canada under true red liberal governments such as B.C.‘s, especially the part about apparently cowering under the watchful eye of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President Hu Jintao.

But a manual which is to be used by the teachers in the schools confidentially suggests that teachers should deflect criticisms of China’s notoriously abysmal human rights record (which includes credible allegations of genocide, torture, total lack of actual justice, their immoral “one baby rule”, and so on), by instead suggesting to the soon-to-be-in-America-and-Canada students that no! no! no!: it’s the the U.S. which has an abysmal human rights record.  Of course that’s an outrageous lie, but liberals don’t care about that.  They hate America.  All liberals think like that.  Al Qaeda and the Taliban ain’t bad—it’s Bush who’s evil!

According to the report, teachers are told to sway discussion away from China’s notoriously abysmal record, and instead, tell students that the U.S. is the real villain here.

The teachers were also told to avoid talking about human rights but if the topic came up, they should direct criticism towards other countries, especially the U.S., according to confidential information distributed to staff at Grand Canadian Academy in Tongxiang and the B.C. Maodun High School.

“When dealing with such [human rights] topics, talk about other countries and avoid China,” says the schools’ 2006 handbook, which was leaked to The Vancouver Sun. “Chinese government is happy if we use U.S. as an example and be critical about its wrongdoings in human rights.”

Similarly, when asked about Tiananmen Square, Taiwan, Tibet, Falun Gong, Japan, China’s democracy and Chinese leaders, especially Mao Zedong, students are told, “I don’t know”.

“Totally avoid this issue. If asked about it, ‘I don’t know’ is the safest answer.”

Bring young communists over—welcome them with open arms—with all their pro-communist and anti-American brain-washing fully intact.  Next project: Wahhabis from Saudi Arabia!  Vote liberal!

Oddly, while public schools and colleges in B.C. and elsewhere in North America seem to me little more than Godless church of liberalism leftist propaganda “centers of excellence” (or just as excellent as the students judge themselves to be capable of, taking into consideration how they feel on any given day and whether they’ve been fed a taxpayer-subsidized hot snack or not); where the clerics—the teachers—promote anti-conservative politics and anything but Judeo-Christian values; and where criticizing all but the furthest left-wing political parties and their ideals is de rigeur; in China they’re instructed to just zip it when it comes to questions about the communist government.  Say “I don’t know” to the kids.  (It’s only when they get here that the real irony begins: pro-socialist church of liberalism talk!)

In speaking about China’s leaders, the teachers should avoid all criticisms, it adds.

“The people of every country tend to think their own government is lousy.

[Joel says:  huh?!  I’ll take mine over theirs any day, thanks.]

However, in the “family-type” cultural structure like China, the local people may feel offended when the outsiders are critical about their government leaders, including the past leaders like Chairman Mao and the current leaders.

“Avoid negative comments even when the students and Chinese colleagues are being critical about them.”

Apparently the manual doesn’t apply here, where the clerics are clearly encouraged to talk down about anything or anyone conservative, and talk up anything or anyone left of center.

I highly doubt the whole B.C. curriculum is being taught in China though.  For example, the B.C. Government is currently devising and implementing a mandatory homosexuality is a great lifestyle! history and social values propaganda curriculum into their general curriculum for the young ‘uns, because parents are so so stupid and government knows better how to raise your kids.  B.C.‘s Ministry of Education and Ministry of the Attorney-General agreed to review the province’s curricula to ensure that the issue of homosexuality is included in all so-called ‘social justice’ discussions – such as those involving racial inequality and women’s rights.  So the communist-luvin’ anti-American Chinese students may be a tad surprised when they get here, but they’ll soon be set straight (in a manner of speaking).
