CANADA, ACTUALLY: Nielsen ratings confirm Canada’s love for American culture

…as it does most every week.

I thought this would tie in well with an earlier blog entry from today, about Americans and Canadians being largely the same.

Liberals in Canada love to pretend that Canadians are completely different from Americans.  They tear down the Americans constantly.  Liberals feel that in order to build themselves up, they need to tear someone else down.  To get richer, someone else must get poorer.  It’s how children think.

It’s not working.  But they keep trying anyway.

All Canada’s preferences are American except two, as usual.

The Liberal Party’s official This Here Is Canadian Culture and You’re Going To Love It, Dammit strategy that I referred to in an earlier entry is a dismal failure and an embarrassment.  They still believe “Canadian culture” can be created by government decree.  State-run media.  Laws, policies, government programs.  The state-censor CRTC.  They haven’t yet figured out that culture just happens, if you let it.  My guess is that they don’t want to “let it” for fear it will turn out to be just like American culture.  They want to create a liberal-leftist culture of full dependence on government and socialism.  That’s my guess.  That’s why they need all the taxpayer cash, laws, policies, “Canadian Content” laws, banning Fox News Channel until just recently, (and only after they approved of al-Jazeera first) and so on.

I used to provide this Nielsen ratings chart quite regularly but forgot about it after showing for the 80th time that Canadians mostly watch American shows on TV, despite spending countless BILLIONS of dollars at the CBC and subsidizing and protecting the other networks and subsidizing anything that even is even remotely “Canadian”.  The image logo appears at the end of every single TV show or movie made in Canada, and at festivals and cultural events at every turn.  It’s as if Canadian culture is “brought to you by…. the Canadian Liberal Government”.  It reminds me of the old Soviet Union.

I also still think it’s hideous that the Nielsen company indicates the Canadian networks that the shows appear on in Canada, rather than the American network that Canadian networks are allowed to piggyback on, making it appear as though all shows in Canada emanate from Canadian networks.

Anyway, as I’ve pointed out before, Corner Gas—a really funny show—makes it to the top twenty as it always does, and the private sector’s own CTV Evening News also does—nearly every week.  The CBC virtually never, ever, makes it to the top twenty.  Perhaps they need another few BILLION dollars.  Or we need more censorship and laws to ensure Canadians watch what liberals deem is good for us—which always happens to be liberal-left-friendly and anti-conservative and of course anti-American.
