Couric does Iraq - while Bush was there - and her viewers hide under their kitchen tables

Here’s my take:  Like other liberal media, CBS News is an overt shill for the Democratic Party.  In order to maintain their network news ratings lead, they hired Katie Couric—at $12 MILLION dollars per year—to be their anchor after Dan Rather Biased got caught and was let go. So many liberals have relied on her to give them the anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-conservative, anti-Christian, anti-American spin they so crave and need for their dinner party and summer barbecue talking points.  Unfortunately for her and CBS, her ratings since being hired have been terrible, falling to last place among the networks.

Therefore, when Katie Couric took what would ordinarily be a HUGE ratings booster—a trip to liberal-loathed Iraq—just ahead of the Petraeus Report—to report on what she must have hoped would be the “failure” going on there despite the annoying image rumors to the contrary—or perhaps to try to somehow prove the rumors wrong.  Her audience, who also heard the rumors of progress and success, must have feared the worst.  Which is to say the truth might be exposed. Traitor!

And so, as the Nielsen ratings information now shows, rather than attract whacks of viewers and boost her ratings, viewers buried their heads in the sand.  Suddenly, they didn’t tune in, um, even less than they didn’t before.  She even had the unbelievable good luck to have found President Bush there on a surprise visit while she was there—and got to interview him.  Still nothing.  They couldn’t bear to watch.

Indeed, Couric found and reported progress in Iraq— shocking nearly all observers —for to not do so would be to outright lie, which bloggers would uncover and expose just as they did her liberal media mentor, Dan Rather Biased.  I’m sure for once she was happy that her ratings so sucked during that trip.

In fact, as the Media Research Center reports:

Not even CBS anchor Katie Couric is sufficiently liberal to satisfy New York Times drama critic turned political commentator Frank Rich, who in his latest epic Sunday column accused the CBS anchor, who recently went to Iraq, of “drinking the…Kool-Aid” regarding Bush’s optimistic pronouncements on the war. Following the lefty line, Rich also referred to two scholars from the left-of-center Brookings Institution as “Pentagon junketeers” for daring to suggest things are improving on the ground in Iraq

As we know, the New York Times is the liberal-left’s bible, publishing a full-page ad this week by the far leftist MoveOn.org which questioned the honor of General David Petraeus by calling him General “Betray us”, among other far-leftist tripe.

Katie Couric was clearly in Iraq when the liberal media memo went out that the Petraeus Report is to be denounced in advance   because rumors indicated that the Report looked bad for liberals (i.e., America was making progress), and further that Petraeus should personally be deemed a liar and nothing short of a Bush hack, whatever the truth on the ground.  So the math is simple: tell or show the truth = become a liberal-left pariah and get booted out of their club.  (We’ve learned nothing new today so far).

Iraq Is Ratings Drag for Katie Couric

NEW YORK (AP) – If some people thought traveling to Iraq and Syria was a ratings stunt for Katie Couric, it didn’t work out that way.

The “CBS Evening News” tied a record low with just under 5.5 million viewers last week, Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday. Last week and Memorial Day week are the two least-watched CBS evening newscasts since at least 1987, and probably far earlier.

CBS said it wasn’t surprising, and argued that last week’s numbers were artificially deflated because of U.S. Open coverage.

[Joel raises an eyebrow so high it nearly hits the ceiling light… then laughs out loud]

Now back from Iraq and having read the reviews, Couric is right back at it.
