CTV: “Harper believes it’s the right decision”

PM to fly to Cyprus to collect Canadian evacuees

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will fly from France to Cyprus this evening, where his Canadian Forces Airbus will be filled with Canadians evacuated from Lebanon for the trip home.

The Airbus, which can carry 120 people, will be stripped down to hold as many evacuees as possible, said CTV’s David Akin, who is with Harper in France.

“He’s going to ditch all the media that have travelled with him, ditch the rest of his delegation. Just a skeleton staff, Prime Minister Harper and his wife and about four or five staff, will travel to Cyprus as soon as they can.”

Harper believes it’s the right decision.

Gee.  Ya think?

I think they put that there in order to raise the question as to whether or not it was the right decision—which it isn’t if you are a Harper-hater, because it was exactly the right decision.

Then the coups de grâce, which we should all expect by now of our disrespectful cabal of Harper-haters:

Reporters asked Harper why he and his wife weren’t also staying behind, in order to free up more seats for evacuees. They were told the prime minister is not permitted to fly on commercial flights, but must travel in a Canadian military aircraft.

UPDATE:  Despite repeated requests from the media, not even one reporter was allowed on board the diverted flight.
