Our newest columnist, Gerald Hayes, writes a good column today about our judicial system, focusing on the recent same-sex marriage decision and the more recent private health insurance case. He asks some pointed questions and makes you think!

[…] It should be intolerable for all Canadians to see judges deciding cases on the basis of their political beliefs rather than the written word of law as it is made by Parliament. Canadians should be up in arms as are our cousins to the south. We must NOT tolerate an independent, unaccountable addition to the legislative process.
Canadians need to wake up to this incredible danger to our democracy. The foundation of our country is being undermined by a handful of people in pretty robes. Failure to act will entail consequences beyond imagination as judges add more and more invisible words to our fundamental legal documents. […]
