How will you actually get your street hockey gear, Mr. Fields?

Liberal moonbats in Vancouver took to the streets to protest, um, streets in general.  But they want public transit.  Which would presumably operate on…. streets.  After hockey is finished.  Or something like that.

VANCOUVER (CP) – About 300 spectators and hockey players of all ages blocked a section of a main Vancouver street on Sunday to protest a proposed highway development.

The street hockey game shut down a part of the city’s trendy Commercial Drive for just over an hour on the sunny afternoon.

The puck – actually a green tennis ball – dropped at 1 p.m. with players as young as five battling it out to score a goal in the friendly match.

“By stepping out on the streets to have a bit of fun, we’re empowering ourselves to make the necessary changes,” said organizer David Fields.

He said the group was there to deliver a message to the provincial government.

“We don’t want to see Highway One expanded. There are other alternatives available. If they’re going to sink a billion dollars into transportation, we’d rather see it put into public transit instead,” he said

But here’s the kicker, or whatever you call it in hockey:

“It’s a good opportunity on a beautiful day like today to show people that we should take back our streets, back away from the cars and use streets for what they are meant for, playing hockey,” he said.

Of course no protest is complete without the anti-corporate, hopefully anti-American message leaking out (I mean assuming it isn’t a pro gay or pro pot-smoking thing):

[Referring to the highway expansion] “It will bring more people into the neighbourhood and will attract more development such as big box stores which are dependent upon more car traffic.”

Fields said he was concerned about local community shops having to compete with larger retail stores.

The delivery trucks that deliver hockey equipment to the little shops that you’re going to ride to on your bike to load up on hockey gear for your hockey team are OK then?  Because I’m getting confused.  How will the store, and your team, actually get your street hockey gear, Mr. Fields?

And of course the common sense:  The Ministry of Transportation says the new highway improvements will decrease traffic congestion so commuters, truckers, and residents will be able to get to their destinations quicker and safer.

So they can play hockey, on the street.  Vote liberal.

(Ironically, the government in BC is a Liberal government.  So get into the far left-turn lane—the fringe, even.  Vote socialist.)
