NATO General: “Canada is way back at the top”

Forget what liberals, their media, and their pacifist pantywaist brigade tell you—and most particularly, forget anything pretend General Jack Layton and his you’ve got to be kidding party socialist pacifists tell you in lockstep automaton fashion.  Here’s what a seasoned General who knows what he’s talking about tells you:

Richards [British Gen. David Richards, the outgoing head of the NATO-led coalition in Afghanistan], whose visit to Kandahar was part of a farewell tour, heaped praise on Canada’s military role in Afghanistan and questioned what the situation would be like now without them.

“Kandahar was the toughest nut to crack,” he told reporters.

“It was a very, very tough period and the fact is Canada is way back now at the top of one of those small number of countries that can confidently tackle the most demanding military task,” said Richards.

British commander in Afghanistan says reinforcements on the way

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan—Thousands more international troops will soon pour into Afghanistan and many of them will come to Kandahar province to bolster Canada’s military, British Gen. David Richards, the outgoing head of the NATO-led coalition in Afghanistan, announced Friday.

The bulk of the troops look like they will come from the New York-based 10th Mountain Division and have only been pledged for the short term, however.

The 10th was scheduled to leave Afghanistan next month, but the U.S. Defence Department extended the tour for its 3,200 soldiers for four months, to cover the crucial spring period when the Taliban are expected to mount a new offensive.

Richards said one of three combat brigades from the 10th, about 650 troops, will become an ISAF “theatre task force” – a kind of rapid reaction force, and be stationed at Kandahar Airfield, home base to nearly 2,500 Canadians.

Another two U.S. battalions will be available for deployment when and where needed, he said.

I wish there was as much resolve as this from Canada, NATO, and the whole civilized world to complete the job in Iraq as well.  I especially wish the liberal-left and their media here, in the U.S., in Europe, and elsewhere weren’t so bent on America losing.  And I particularly wish the liberal Democrats in the U.S. who are trying to stop President Bush as he tries to similarly send in the cavalry to help save American soldier butt in Iraq …would resume their usual positions on their fat butts.

Deploy the assets.
