New study reveals extent of member resentment of unions spending their dues on left-wing politics

A new poll released today by iconic pollster, political adviser, and author Frank Luntz (who, by the way, is selling a book, and is therefore easy for any media including the CBC and CTV to book as a guest so he can talk about this extremely important new poll), finally reveals the extent of the union rank and file resentment of their leadership, and how they are spending their union dues on political —invariably left-wing — politics and political campaigns.

Who knew the extent of the resentment was this high?

While around 40% of American union members as a whole typically vote for Republicans (more in the smaller private trade sector unions and fewer in the massive government employees unions), their union dues — which they’re forced to pay — goes toward left-wing politicians and their campaigns against Republicans.

Union members — non-government union members anyway —are a natural fit for the Republican Party in the U.S. and something like a conservative party in Canada.  They know very well that their success relies upon the ability of private business to succeed, and the importance of such things as not forcing business to compete against their own governments.

But the fact is, particularly in Canada, the unions have become a far left-wing and sometimes downright Marxist political machine, which aside from owning and controlling the you’ve got to be kidding party, are possibly the biggest political lobbyists and biggest special interest group in the country.

This year in the U.S., the big unions will spend nearly a BILLION dollars supporting almost exclusively left-wing candidates, and buying TV and radio ads bashing conservatives.  A BILLION dollars taken from the dues of hard-working union members who are forced by their union bosses to pay union dues.
