Remember all that bitching about Bombardier getting Liberal gov’t cash? Never mind!

Is there more than 14 people or companies left in Canada that aren’t either directly working for the state, being offered “entitlements” from the state, or loans or aid of some sort, or who aren’t totally or at least to some large degree reliant upon the state for their survival?  Didn’t think so.  That was why I voted Conservative.  To push back.

In the past, and often in this space, conservatives like me have bashed the past Liberal governments for propping up that Quebec firm Bombardier (or what I’ve called “the Bombardier division of the Liberal Party”) with hundreds of millions or billions in taxpayer aid packages of many descriptions—loan guarantees, and such—over the years.  Not to purchase fighter jets and bombers, as I would be happy to do, but “just because”, apparently.  There’s still untold millions or hundreds of millions of taxpayer cash outstanding on their accounts, just because.

Now, our current government, Liberal Party Too, is apparently about ready to whip out their left boob for Quebec’s so-called “private enterprise” (which while being called “private enterprise” is nonetheless now absolutely, totally, completely and apparently irreversibly dependent upon the state, rendering them not really “enterprising” at all but rather “state teat-sucking”, much like so many other Canadian “private enterprises” and once-pioneering self-reliant citizens—(advantage: the liberal-left and their Fabian socialism!—It’s working!).

Governments placing their bets with our taxpayer cash on particular private industries or industry segments is nothing new in Canada, sadly,  but seeing as the Conservative Party was so against this sort of thing in the past, and is one of the reasons people voted for them, it is rather odd—or at least it is supposed to be rather odd, this change in principles toward being exactly like Liberals.  And it was rather odd until a few weeks or months ago when this started becoming rather normal

According the liberalvision CTV.ca division of the liberals’ media, it’s being reported by the state-run CBC French radio media division called “Radio-Canada”.  Coinkidink!

Harper about to unveil millions for aerospace

MONTREAL—The Harper government is about to announce nearly a billion dollars in aid for Canada’s aerospace industry, Radio-Canada reports.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government will announce $900 million in assistance over five years for the industry, based mainly in Quebec, according to the television network.

Public Works Minister Michael Fortier and Industry Minister Maxime Bernier will make the announcement in Montreal on Monday, according to the report.

The assistance would be a reversal for the Conservative government which says it prefers cutting taxes to create a business-friendly environment over subsidies.

It “prefers” to do it right, like conservatives, but is compelled by virtue of actually being liberal, to do it like liberals.  But as long as they “prefer” to do it like conservatives would, then vote for them.  Then things will REALLY start a-shakin’ in Kanadistan!

Radio-Canada says the aid will go to research and development and the government intends to be repaid on the investment.

If it’s so sure it’s going to be repaid, then private investors would surely be clamoring to get in on the investment.  Why then would the benevolent government have to be involved at all?

Call me a crazy conservative capitalist, but I thought this was what the “private sector” was for.  To take enterprising risks and such.  Moreover, I thought you Conservatives knew that when I voted for you.  Perhaps more worrisome:  I think you do know that.
